Swim Meets
Swim MeetsCompetitive swimming events are a great way to challenge the swimmers in your club to reach for their best and put their hard training to the test. Events are hosted by clubs and organized by each club's designated Meet Manager.
Events must be sanctioned by Swim NB, who provide the means to apply for sanctioning via the Registration & Event Management System (REMS), which is the first step in hosting your own event.
Meet Calendar
Swim NB is responsible for organising an annual calendar of competitions and training opportunities, for establishing criteria for these events and for approving (sanctioning) the program for each event.
Member clubs of Swim NB are responsible for organising events in accordance with the calendar and criteria established in the Meet Calendar Policy. Swimming Canada is responsible for sanctioning all competitions, following advice from Swim NB and conformity with National requirements.
- The event calendar is organised in accordance with the following principles:
- Encourage development of swimmers at elite, competitive and development levels
- Encourage club development by holding events in as many parts of the province as possible.
- Respect Swim Canada guidelines for long-term athlete development, while recognising that only a minority of swimmers will compete outside the province.
- Include training opportunities for coaches and officials in conjunction with competitions where possible.
All Swim NB clubs are expected to contribute to hosting events and providing coaches and officials for collaborative efforts as appropriate.
If a competition or an event is not sanctioned by Swimming Canada, then results are not considered official or valid for rankings, and insurance policies held by Swimming Canada and Swim NB are not applicable.
The annual calendar usually includes events in five categories:
- Premier
- Invitational
- Cups
- Championships
- Special events.
Training camps should be organised in conjunction with appropriate meets in the Calendar, to the extent possible.
All events are open to being hosted by any club, provided that the technical requirements for the swimming pool are met.
Pools must meet the safety requirements established by Swimming Canada and the technical requirements for the appropriate type of competition, as set by the Technical Council.
Individual clubs may organise one House Meet each year on a date of their choice, if this does not interfere with or replace the club’s participation in another event on the Swim NB calendar.
Clubs may propose alternative formats for approval by the Technical Council. Such events should not interfere with or replace other events in the Swim NB calendar.
The Swim NB Calendar will be set through an open and consultative process so that the SNB Board can adopt the calendar by May 15th each year.
Bidding on Meets - Clubs
Once the Meet Calendar has been adopted by the Board, Clubs are invited to bid on hosting various meets.
Requirements for Bidding on a Meet
- Clubs must have a qualified Meet Manager (taken clinic at a minimum) or co-host with a club who does.
- Clubs must have adequate officials to host a meet or co-host with a club who does.
- The facility which a meet is run must meet the minimum facility requirements for each type of meet as outlined below:
